What is performance coaching, and how can it help your work?
Performance coaching is real, structured work on how you lead, decide, and build, done with someone whose only job is to hold that process with you. It moves you forward, starting with where you are now and building toward what's next, using your own material as the ground rather than someone else's playbook or a look back at what's already happened.
If you're leading, building, or moving into new territory, you already know the feeling. The self you built to get here was enough to get here. But what's being asked of you now is different, and the old ways don't fit the shape of what's next.
What it is
At its core, performance coaching comes down to three things: an accurate read on what you're carrying, a structured way to work it, and a way to make the change visible and real between conversations.
Arriving accurately. Most people move fast past what they're feeling and needing, straight into problem-solving. A good coaching relationship slows that down first. Before we build anything, we get clear on what's true right now, the real state you're in today, distinct from the composed version you lead with. This part draws on Marshall Rosenberg's needs-based communication work, which separates what happened from the story layered on top of it. Getting this right is what everything that follows stands on.
Working the material. Once you know what you're bringing in, the work turns to the beliefs and patterns running underneath it. Where did the thought "if I say no, I'll lose the relationship" come from, and is it true, or is it doing a job that's outlived its use? Staying with the problem before jumping to a solution tends to open up ideas and opportunities that a fast answer would have missed entirely. Sometimes saying no isn't even the question anymore, once the real options are visible. This is where old thinking gets tested against evidence, gently, and where a genuinely workable belief replaces one that's been quietly running the show. Every session moves through a clear structure, goal, reality, options, and a specific commitment, so insight doesn't stay a nice conversation. It becomes something you can act on.
Making it visible. The gap between a good coaching conversation and a life that's different comes down to what happens after you hang up. This is where delivery discipline earns its place, borrowed from over a decade of leading organisational change and project delivery across teams of two to two hundred. Change gets sized to two weeks at a time, made visible on a simple board, and reviewed honestly before the next commitment is set. Small, sustainable, trackable. That's what turns intention into momentum.
Why this matters for your work specifically
You already know how to make things happen. This work is about finding the most creative and intelligent pathway to your greatest work, the personalised map that doesn't exist yet because no one's walked this exact territory before you.
This work gives you decisions made with clarity and confidence, even without precedent to lean on. It bridges grand vision into strategy you can apply, learn from, and grow. It builds momentum that holds when things get disrupted, because all great plans have disruption, and it's factored in from the start. It's a pace you can sustain, with real progress, energy and alignment between how you work and how you live. And underneath all of it, a stronger belief in what you're capable of, and the confidence to go after it.
Is this for you
If you're stepping up in your role, moving out of an industry or role you've outgrown, restructuring your work to fit the life you want, or steadying yourself after something big has already landed, this is built for exactly that kind of shift.
You don't need a coach the way you don't need a nutritionist or a fitness coach. But if the territory you're in is genuinely new, having someone in it with you, structured and honest, changes what's possible.
If this is resonating, the next step is a conversation, not a commitment. Book a curiosity call and we'll talk through what's going on for you, and whether this is the right container for it.
